Mediocre No. 9 – Mighty No. 9 Review

Miketendo64! By Gamers, For Gamers

Kickstarter has had many success stories recently in the video game industry. Shovel Knight, Pillars of Eternity, Hyper Light Drifter; the list goes on and on. Mighty No. 9, however, is not one of these stories.

To preface the actual review, I would like to disclose that I played the PS3 version of Mighty No. 9, but can assure that the problems I had and the compliments I would give will also apply to the Wii U version.

Mighty No. 9’s writing induces cringe at best. With lines such as “It is the present year” and “What in the blue blazes?!”, Mighty No. 9’s dialogue fails to impress or even satisfy someone wanting a GOOD story to accompany the game.Screen Shot 2016-07-02 at 12.08.19 PM.png

Thinking Outside the Box in BoxBoy! – Review

Miketendo64! By Gamers, For Gamers

Written and edited by Dan Ciocca of Dan’s Gaming News

BoxBoy! was a surprise reveal at last year’s April Nintendo Direct. We didn’t see it coming and didn’t think much of it since it was just a small eShop exclusive. At least, that’s what I thought, so I didn’t pick it up. I always had an interest in it, but never bothered to buy it because I never felt compelled to. In BoxBoy!, you play as Qbby, a black and white box who can create a set number of boxes at will. You use these boxes to solve many puzzles across the over 100 stages in the game. For example, you can create a hook to pull yourself to a higher ledge, or you can…

Unraveling Fun in Kirby’s Epic Yarn

Miketendo64! By Gamers, For Gamers

Written by Dan Ciocca of Dan’s Gaming News, Edited by Iris Tat

Nowadays, the only yarn-related game that comes to mind is Yoshi’s Woolly World, and for good reason. It is a shining example of a wonderful game with a beautiful art-style, and great controls. Today, however, we’re focusing on its forgotten cousin, Kirby’s Epic Yarn.

In Epic Yarn, Kirby is tasked with taking down the evil sorcerer, Yin-Yarn, who is turning everyone and everything in Dream Land into yarn. Before he is able to stop him, Kirby gets sucked into his magic sock, and is transported to Patch Land, where everything is made of yarn. Kirby then befriends Prince Fluff, who becomes playable to Player 2. The story is delightfully bizarre, and the writing is at times nearly laugh-out-loud funny. The narrating is done excellently, with the narrator delivering the lines sublimely.
